I have been listening to an excellent recent CD “Songs of Robert Burns” by one of Scotland’s greatest young singers, former Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year, Robyn Stapleton. Robyn has a beautiful voice and really brings out the emotion of the words. If you enjoy the works of Robert Burns, you will love this album. It contains some truly lovely songs, one of which expresses the feelings of a wife for her husband as they’ve grown old together - “John Anderson, my jo”, is my choice for recording this week.

John Anderson, my jo, John,
When we were first acquent;
Your locks were like the raven,
Your bonie brow was brent;
But now your brow is beld, John,
Your locks are like the snaw;
But blessings on your frosty pow,
John Anderson, my jo.

John Anderson, my jo, John,
We clamb the hill thegither;
And mony a cantie day, John,
We've had wi' ane anither:
Now we maun totter down, John,
And hand in hand we'll go,
And sleep thegither at the foot,
John Anderson, my jo.
