Robert Burns enjoyed new-found celebrity after publication of his first collection of poems and embarked on a series of tours to see the country.  He undertook a tour of the Highlands in August/September 1787. He enjoyed some great hospitality along the way and penned the following verse to mark that.

“When Death's dark stream I ferry o'er,

A time that surely shall come,

In Heav'n itself I'll ask no more,

Than just a Highland welcome.”
