TO DR MAXWELL, ON MISS JESSIE STAIG'S RECOVERY

Last week I recorded a poem by Robert Burns extolling the charms of a young lady in Dumfries. Today, I have recorded a verse written to his friend Dr William Maxwell to mark the occasion of her recovery from a life-threatening illness following treatment by Dr Maxwell.

"Maxwell, if merit here you crave,

That merit I deny:

You save fair Jessie from the grave!

An Angel could not die."
